My 12 years journey with Type 1 Diabetes
❤The whole world turned upside down when doctors told me that I need to inject myself 3-5 times a day for my entire life to survive with no other option at the age of 12. My journey with Type 1 Diabetes starts here.🚴
Since no permanent
cure available, this autoimmune disease has much to deal with lifestyle apart
from injecting insulin. Handling Hyperglycemia and midnight Hypoglycemia is not
less than a roller coaster ride for a person living with Type 1 Diabetes.
Gradually
developing the habit of swallowing bitterness of bitter gourd juice and soaked
fenugreek seeds, I was welcomed in this new world 11 years ago. The blood sugar
levels are severely affected by every decision I make, from food to sleeping
hours, from work out to insulin dosage. Each wrong decision can pour cold water
on my efforts to maintain targeted blood sugar levels. The hardest part as a
child was not being allowed to have my favorite dishes to face my cravings and
munching, which made me feel like a victim of life’s cruel fate. Accepting this
reality took almost a year for a 12year old kid who was eagerly learning to
play with her glucometer as her new toy.
Luckily though,
mindset and perspective changed, and things start to manage. I start my day
with power yoga, blending with meditation and pranayama, helping me maintain my
energy level throughout the day. Walking for 20 mins after dinner is the most
effective sleeping pill. Cycling and playing sports is the best stress-buster
in this long journey. Introduction to a variety of seeds in my diet plan
strengthened my immunity. Having roasted fox nuts as my evening snacks has
enhanced my bone density. In contrast, soaked chia seeds and roasted flax seeds
have played a vital role in maintaining my BMI, and Fenugreek seeds as my good
morning tea are the key to my cardiometabolic health. Salad as a pre-meal and
Multigrain chapati with green leafy vegetables has added plenty of
macronutrients to my food plate.
This blessing in disguise has given rise to a self-disciplined and proactive attitude towards life. A balanced diet with prescribed insulin dosage merged with physical activeness and awareness for its complications with an optimistic attitude are the fundamental principles that had made this lifetime journey an amazing one.💥
